Research Misconduct: FFP

FFP = Fabrication + Falsification + Plagiarism
  • Fabrication: Making up data that was not actually collected. Example: Reporting 200 responses when only 120 collected, creating remaining responses.
  • Falsification: Manipulating, altering or omitting existing data/process. Example: Deleting inconvenient observations to support hypothesis.
  • Plagiarism: Using others' words, ideas, data or work without proper credit.

  • Simultaneous Submission: Same manuscript to multiple journals at once
  • Salami Slicing: Unnecessarily dividing one integrated study into small papers
  • Selective Reporting: Only favourable/significant results reported
  • Citation Manipulation: Adding irrelevant citations to increase count
  • Conflict of Interest: Personal/professional/financial interest affecting research judgement — must be disclosed and managed, not hidden
